chromnil GmbH develops an all-in-one instrument for high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) for laboratories. This Privacy Policy explains which personal data we process when you visit chromnil.com, contact us, request a quote or a demo, or otherwise work with us. «Data» here means personal data, that is, any information relating to an identified or identifiable person.
We process data in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
You can read chromnil.com without telling us who you are. The website sets no cookies and uses no tracking or advertising tools. To see how the website is used, we count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies and does not recognize you across visits or websites. Apart from its small statistics script, all fonts, images, scripts and the 3D model are served from chromnil.com itself.
Who is responsible for your data?
The controller for the data processing described here is:
chromnil GmbH Limmattalstrasse 1228049 Zurich
Switzerland info@chromnil.com
What data do we process?
- Technical data
- When you visit chromnil.com, your browser automatically sends data to the server that hosts the website, such as your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, the referring page, and the browser and operating system you use. This data is needed to deliver the website and keep it secure. We do not use it to identify you.
- Communication data
- If you write to us by e-mail or contact us by phone or in person, for example at a conference, we process your name, e-mail address, organization and position if you give them, and the content of your message.
- Business data
- If you or your organization request a quote, a demo of your application or a test, or become a customer, supplier or partner, we process the contact details of the people involved and the data needed to prepare and carry out the agreement, such as offers, orders, delivery and billing details.
We receive most of this data from you. If you work for a laboratory, company or institution that deals with us, we may also receive your business contact details from your colleagues. We do not buy data from third parties.
For what purposes do we process your data?
- Running the website
- We use technical data to deliver chromnil.com, to detect and fix errors and to protect the website against misuse and attacks.
- Improving the website
- We use anonymous visitor statistics to see which pages are read and how quickly they load, so we can improve the website.
- Answering your questions
- We use communication data to reply to your message, for example about chromnil, a quote, a demo, press enquiries or a job.
- Quotes, demos and orders
- We use business data to prepare offers, arrange demos and tests, deliver and support our instruments and manage our relationships with customers, suppliers and partners.
- Legal obligations
- We keep and process data where the law requires it, for example the accounting and retention obligations under Swiss law.
We do not use your data for profiling or automated individual decisions, and we do not sell it.
On what legal basis do we process your data?
Under Swiss law, we may process personal data as long as we respect the principles of the FADP. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract
- For quotes, demos, orders and support, where the processing is needed to prepare or perform a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Legal obligations
- Where we have to keep or disclose data by law (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
- Legitimate interests
- For running the website securely, measuring how it is used, answering enquiries and keeping in touch with business contacts (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies, visitor statistics, local storage and links to other websites
chromnil.com sets no cookies and uses no tracking or advertising tools.
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a service of Cloudflare, Inc. (USA), which also hosts the website. When a page loads, a small script from cloudflareinsights.com sends Cloudflare the address of the page, the referring page, your browser, operating system and country, and how quickly the page loaded. The script sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not create a profile of you or follow you across websites. We only see aggregated figures, such as the number of visits per page.
If you use the button that pauses the animations, your browser remembers this choice in its local storage (the entry «motion»). It stays on your device, is not sent to us and you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.
The website links to other websites, such as our LinkedIn page or the websites of our partners and publications. These are plain links: no data is sent to these providers until you click them. Once you are on another website, its own privacy policy applies.
Who do we share your data with?
We only share data where it is needed for the purposes above, with the following recipients:
- Hosting
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) hosts chromnil.com and processes the technical data and the visitor statistics on our behalf. Cloudflare delivers the website from data centres around the world, usually from one close to you, and is certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
- Other service providers
- Providers of IT, e-mail, accounting and logistics services who support us and process data on our behalf, bound by contract to protect it.
- Authorities
- Courts and authorities, where we are legally obliged to disclose data or need to do so to protect our rights.
Our service providers may only use your data as we instruct them and not for their own purposes.
Is your data disclosed abroad?
We mainly process data in Switzerland and the European Economic Area (EEA), whose data protection the Swiss Federal Council recognizes as adequate. If a service provider processes data in another country, for example in the USA, we make sure the data is adequately protected, either because the country is recognized as adequate (such as certified companies under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) or by agreeing on the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission (Decision 2021/914 (opens in new tab)), with the amendments needed for Switzerland.
How long do we keep your data?
- Technical data
- Cloudflare keeps technical data only as long as it needs it to deliver the website and protect it against attacks. We do not keep logs of individual visits ourselves; we only see aggregated figures, such as the number of requests per day.
- Communication data
- As long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, generally no longer than two years after our last contact.
- Business data
- For the duration of the business relationship. Business records such as offers, contracts and invoices are kept for ten years, as required by Swiss law.
After that, we delete or anonymize the data.
How do we protect your data?
We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against loss, unauthorized access and misuse. chromnil.com is only served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Only the people at chromnil who need your data for their work have access to it.
What are your rights?
Depending on the applicable data protection law, you have the right to:
- request information on whether and which data we process about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- object to the processing of your data, in particular for direct marketing;
- receive the data you gave us in a common electronic format or have it transferred to another controller;
- withdraw your consent at any time, with effect for the future.
To exercise these rights, write to us at the address below. We may ask you to prove your identity.
If you do not agree with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) (opens in new tab), in the EEA the authority in your country.
